Turning sustainability ambition into action was this year’s headline, with our commercial, industrial, and institutional clients exploring various pathways to meeting their sustainability and energy goals. Trio is proud to support our clients on their sustainability journeys, and to celebrate their many achievements as they take an active role in a clean energy future.
Here’s a month-by-month snapshot of some of our highlights across the year:
Helping corporate clients meet their climate goals
Trio was proud to partner with Catona Climate on a critical soil carbon project to help corporate clients achieve their climate goals. Trio sourced credits for Catona’s client from the Northern Great Plains Regenerative Grazing Project, an innovative project funded by Catona and developed by partner Native. The project served to increase the soil’s potential to sequester carbon by implementing sustainable grazing management on multiple ranches in Montana and parts of five adjacent states. The project has already secured plans for regenerative practices on over 50,000 acres, which will sequester over 650,000 tonnes of carbon.
Driving impact across supply chains
Trio published “Supply Chain Decarbonization: A Guide to Establishing a Successful Decarbonization Program,” a white paper providing a strategic approach to help break down the challenges of supply chain engagement into manageable steps and practical initiatives that will drive impact.
We are Trio
We announced our global rebrand, which united our three entities - Edison Energy, and affiliated companies Altenex Energy and Alfa Energy – under one unified name: Trio. We made the decision to unify under a single global brand to help our clients find and implement the most impactful solutions as they navigate the energy transition. We now serve clients in more than 30 countries, have advised on 12.2+ GW of renewable energy procurement deals, and have global teams across five continents.
Trio advises RTX on largest deal to date
Trio served as an advisor to RTX on an agreement with ENGIE Resources LLC, which will provide 100% renewable electricity to 12 of RTX’s Texas facilities. Trio helped identify, negotiate, and secure the deal - RTX’s largest renewable energy procurement to date, nearly doubling the company’s usage of renewable electricity in 2023. We are proud to have supported this innovative structure for retail-delivered renewable energy, which will make a significant impact on RTX’s decarbonization goals.
Disclosure to decarbonization
Trio released “Disclosure to Decarbonization: A Guide to Setting and Achieving Your Climate Goals,” in partnership with Trellis (formerly GreenBiz). The white paper lays out an integrated framework for achieving business goals and sustainability ambition, what it looks like to put this approach into practice, and how sustainability leaders can use this approach to avoid roadblocks, engage key internal and external stakeholders, and drive tangible impact.
Impact. Together.
Edison International, Trio’s parent company, released its 2023 Sustainability Report, detailing the company’s 2023 achievements towards a clean energy future that is reliable, resilient, and accessible to all customers and communities. Sustainability is at the core of Edison International’s vision, with the company helping to create a world where homes and businesses, cars, trucks, and mass transit are powered by carbon-free electricity and customers benefit from reduced energy costs.
The power of collaboration
Trio worked with Cargill and Mars on two virtual power purchase agreements in partnership with Ocean Breeze Energy, facilitating the process and providing support across PPA strategy, sourcing, contract analysis, and negotiation. Through their aggregated PPA with Ocean Breeze, Cargill and Mars continue to drive significant emissions reductions as part of their broader renewable energy and sustainability commitments.
Partnering with industry leaders
Trio was proud to host the European Commission (EC) and Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman for a discussion on the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD). The session provided a policy update from the EC, legal advice on navigating the interoperability with this and other ESG legislation, and practical guidance on implementation from Trio experts.
Honda honors Trio as a top Indirect Procurement Supplier
Trio was named a Sustainability Award winner at Honda’s North American Indirect Purchasing Supplier Awards. The award recognizes suppliers that have strong initiatives in place to drive corporate responsibility through social, economic, or environmental sustainability. Award recipients were selected from a pool of more than 5,000 suppliers, with the Sustainability category recognizing six suppliers, including Trio, for their strong initiatives in corporate responsibility through social, economic, or environmental sustainability. We are honored to have received this award and look forward to supporting Honda’s commitment to achieving zero environmental impact for its products and corporate activities by 2050.
An evening in energy
Trio teamed up with Morgan Lewis for an “Evening in Energy” during Climate Week NYC. The event featured an armchair conversation with Pedro Pizarro, president and chief executive officer of Edison International, and Leslie Biddle, Deputy Under Secretary for Commercialization and Finance at the U.S. Department of Energy. A panel discussion followed, featuring Trio clients and partners Rich Powell, CEO, Clean Energy Buyers Association (CEBA); Jim Gowen, CSO, Verizon; Kristen Siemen, CSO, General Motors; and Gayle Schueller, Senior Vice President & Chief Sustainability Officer, 3M.
Powering the future of electric trucks
Velocity Truck Rental & Leasing (VTRL) and Trio proudly hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony at VTRL’s Fontana facility to celebrate the official launch of 47 high-powered electric charging stations across Southern California. Trio was proud to serve as VTRL’s advisor on the project, from strategy through implementation.
Driving impact across the automotive sector
Trio launched the Transform: Auto program, aimed at driving the adoption of renewable energy across the automotive supply chain. Developed by Trio, the program – a collaboration of Suppliers Partnership for the Environment and sponsored by Ford, General Motors, Honda, Magna and Toyota - aims squarely at reducing Scope 3 supply chain emissions in the global automotive industry by providing automotive suppliers with tailored guidance and dedicated expert support to help facilitate the procurement of renewable energy to reduce their Scope 2 emissions.
Cross-sector collaboration
Trio sponsored an exclusive All-Parliamentary Group for Energy Studies (PGES) House of Lords dinner at the Palace of Westminster. Hosted by Lord Teverson, the dinner was attended by Trio CEO Drew Murphy, Trio President Damir Ahmovic, and several other members of our team, along with Trio guests Amazon, Coca Cola, Cushman & Wakefield, and Workman.
Partnering for progress
Trio partnered with client Bristol Myers Squibb (BMS) on the launch of its Supplier Decarbonization Accelerator, which provides complimentary resources and support to key suppliers who are being asked by BMS to set science-based targets by 2028. The program is focused on supplier engagement and education designed to inform suppliers on BMS’ climate goals and provide tailored resources to support suppliers wherever they are on their sustainability journeys.
